World Cup 2006

Hi

You know, generally speaking, I love the World Cup. I am not a complete football fanatic but I have to say the World Cup is one of the best sporting events on the planet. However, this years has been a bit of a disappointment to me. The last WC in Korea was absolutely great...remember it? Loads of the big teams were put out by the underdogs in the first round which made the competition exciting. This year it seems to be all the usual big dogs are through and it's fairly predictable who is gonna do well. It's not quite Formula 1 but so far it has been fairly tell tale. Plus...are you not a wee bit embarassed by the amount of diving that goes on?

I know it's kinda controversial for a fella from northern Ireland but I am supporting England in this WC. Yea, yea...I know they always go on about winning in 1966 and that they are obsessed with Rooney but I think they have a good squad and I kinda like them! Why not? I hear so many people be negative about them. Some people focus so much on wanting to see England lose when they don't even know what team they do support. Plus I figure that if they do win, they might go on less about 1966 - as a nation they'd be relieved and fulfilled...what's wrong with that? So, come on England!

Anyway, I am gonna be playing a lot over this weekend which means I might miss the quarter finals (boo) but I think I'll have time for the Semis and the Final (yea).

Ok, I'm away to watch today's highlights...oh yea, there were no games today!

Yah it was too bad to see England go. It's been one of those years when every team it'd like to see do well seems to be eliminated! Ahh well, that's the life of sports. I think I might pull for France now after seeing how they played against Brazil. It was a joy to see the moves Zidane still has!

For England, there's always next time ... although I'll be cheering Holland on all the way :)
